B. Cleaning the Interior
Dirt and dust may penetrate the interior as a result of blower operation.
NOTE: If the cables present an obstruction during cleaning, these can be removed while
cleaning is in progress. Note the position of the cables and restore them exactly to
this position after cleaning.
(1) Remove dust and other contamination with a soft brush and a vacuum cleaner. Use com-
pressed air If necessary.
CAUTION: TO AVOID MALFUNCTIONS, DO NOT POSITION VACUUM CLEANER
(2) Clean the cable connections at plug-in connectors with a small, narrow, soft brush moist-
ened with cleaning solution, and dry with compressed air.
CAUTION: NO CLEANING SOLUTION MUST BE ALLOWED TO PENETRATE INSIDE
NOTE: When cleaning cable connections of plug-in connectors, avoid bending cables.
(3) Clean the fan blades and winding with a clean, lint-free cloth moistened with cleaning so-
lution, and dry with compressed air.
(4) Clean plastic and epoxy parts with a clean, lint-free cloth moistened with wash primer,
and dry with drying agent and a clean, dry lint-free cloth.
CAUTION: THE CLEANED PARTS MUST BE ABSOLUTELY DRY BEFORE THE
(5) Clean the side walls and housing cover with a clean, lint-free cloth moistened with
cleaning solution, and dry with drying agent and a clean, dry lint-free cloth.
C. Modules and Circuit Card Assemblies
(1) Dust and foreign matter may be removed with compressed air, provided that board cir-
cuits are grounded.
NOTE: If wires and cables are disturbed, restore them to their proper positions or dress
after cleaning.
(2) Clean all new solder joints with isopropyl alcohol (Ref. Fig. 401).
D. Connectors
(1) Wipe dust and dirt from bodies, shells, and cable clamps with an alcohol-moistened cloth.
Dry with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.
(2) Remove dust from inserts with a small, soft-bristle brush and compressed air.
CAUTION: DO NOT PERMIT SOLVENT TO RUN INTO SLEEVES OR CONDUIT THAT
(3) Wash dirt and any traces of lubricant from inserts, insulation, and contacts with a small,
soft-bristle brush moistened with isopropyl alcohol (Ref. Fig. 401).
(4) Dry insert with compressed air.
