1. General
Check includes a thorough visual examination of the unit for damage, deterioration, excessive
wear, and other obvious defects. Do not retain a part for assembly if it is found to be worn in ex-
cess of the allowable service limits. If any doubt exists regarding the serviceability of a part, re-
place it. Fits, clearances, and dimensions are given in the FITS AND CLEARANCES section.
CAUTION: ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE SENSITIVE (ESDS) DEVICES ARE SUBJECT TO DAMAGE
BY EXCESSIVE LEVELS OF VOLTAGE. REFER TO DOD-HDBK-263 FOR PROPER HAN-
DLING PROCEDURES.
2. General Checks
A. Visually check all parts for breaks, cracks, corrosion, foreign matter, nicks, scratches, and ob-
vious wear. Use adequate light and moderate magnification.
B. Check springs for distortion, fatigue, permanent set, position, and proper tension.
C. Check decals, identification plates, and labels for legibility.
D. Check cables and wires for broken strands, poor connections, and short circuits.
E. Check flexible cables for exposed or cracked conductors.
F. Check insulation/sleeving for broken, burned, and worn areas.
3. Specific Checks
A. Housing
Check the housing for cracks, obvious damage such as corroded areas, damaged paint,
dents, damage to handles, retaining elements, and connectors.
B. Connectors
(1) Check connectors for bent, loose or corroded contacts, and loose conductive material
between pins.
(2) Check connector housing, wire connections, and insulating elements, and ensure that
they are fully operational.
(3) The insulation elements between the contacts must be thoroughly cleaned.
C. Covers and Shields
Ensure that no screws, washers, or other attaching hardware are loose or missing. If any
hardware is missing, carefully examine the inside of the chassis for the loose parts.
D. Seals
Check cover seals for obvious damage (cracks, pinched parts, etc.), wear, and discoloration.
E. Insulators
Check the plastic insulator of the antenna connection and the sealing and compound for
cracks and damage.
