Procedure using the FUNCT button
You can use the FUNCT button to set whether the SIMATIC Memory Card works as a program
card or as a firmware update card:
• Function 2: Switching the SIMATIC Memory Card from program card to firmware update
card and performing a firmware update
• Function 3: Switching the SIMATIC Memory Card from firmware update card to program
card
Function 2: Switching the SIMATIC Memory Card to firmware update card and perform update
Requirements:
• The memory card is of type program card (PROGRAM); the write protection of the card is
not set.
• The CPU is in STOP mode.
• Valid firmware update files are available in the FWUPDATE.S7S folder.
Procedure:
1. To get to the function selection mode, press the FUNCT button for at least 3 seconds with a
sharp object and then release it. As an aid, the 7-segment display flashes "0" at one-second
intervals during this time.
After you release the button, you are in function selection mode. The 7-segment display
shows function "1": Save service data on SIMATIC Memory Card
2. Select the function "2" with a brief press of a button.
3. To confirm the selection, press the FUNCT button within 10 seconds for at least 3 seconds
and then release it.
The 7-segment display now displays a "U" (Update) for 10 seconds. The memory card is set
to FWUPDATE. The CPU will then re-evaluate the SIMATIC Memory Card, and the firmware
update starts.
If the requirements for the function selection are not fulfilled (for example, write protection
of the card set, no card inserted, CPU not in operational state STOP), then the 7-segment
display shows the status "F" (Fault) for 10 seconds and the function is not performed. Next,
the menu is closed and the 7-segment display shows "0".
If the card is already of the type FWUPDATE, the function is not executed. The menu is closed
and the 7-segment display displays "0".
