4:3 Letterbox Your television is a 4:3 device. Programmes in 4:3 format are played
back without the black border in full-picture mode.
The width of the picture is adjusted
to the width of the screen for pro-
grammes in 16:9 format; the picture
is limited by black bars to the top and
bottom.
The term letterbox illustrates that
black bars may be visible with this
setting; as if one were literally look-
ing through a letterbox.
4:3 Pan&Scan Your television is a 4:3 device. Programmes in 4:3 format are played
back without the black border in full-picture mode.
The height of the picture is adjusted
to the height of the screen for pro-
grammes in 16:9 format; the picture
is truncated to the left and right.
The term Pan & Scan illustrates that
the screen is cut with this setting if
the transmission is in 16:9 format.
The display window is shown (left/
centre/right) in which the central
handling of a scene takes place.

Software Update

Your set-top box uses device software that can be updated. Siemens is continuously
developing the device software for your set-top box in order to be able to progressively
offer you new and optimised functionalities.
New device software can also be transferred from the PC to your set-top box via the
DATA (RS232 interface) port. You must ensure the following requirements are fulfilled
for this purpose:

Connect the DATA port on your set-top box via a V.24 extension cable to a serial port
on your PC (COM port).
You can get a suitable cable from any specialist retail store for computer accessories.

You need the PC software, Gigaset M45x PC Manager, to transfer data to your set-
top box. This software and the associated user guide are provided free of charge for
downloading on the Internet on the product page of your set-top box.
