Precautions

On safety
• Operate the unit only with a power source as
specified in the "Specifications" section.
• The nameplate indicating operating voltage, power
consumption, etc., is located at the rear of the unit.
• Should any solid object or liquid fall into the cabinet,
unplug the unit and have it checked by qualified
personnel before operating it any further.
• Do not drop or place heavy objects on the power
cord. If the power cord is damaged, turn off the
power immediately. It is dangerous to use the unit
with a damaged power cord.
• Unplug the unit from the wall outlet if it is not to be
used for several days or more.
• Disconnect the power cord from the AC outlet by
grasping the plug, not by pulling the cord.
• The socket-outlet should be near the equipment and
should be easily accessible.
On installation
• Allow adequate air circulation to prevent internal heat
build-up.
Do not place the unit on surfaces (rugs, blankets, etc.)
or near materials (curtains, draperies) that may block
the ventilation holes.
• Do not install the unit in a location near heat sources
such as radiators or air ducts, or in a place subject to
direct sunlight, excessive dust, mechanical vibration
or shock.
On cleaning
To keep the unit looking brand-new, periodically clean
it with a mild detergent solution. Never use strong
solvents such as thinner or benzine, or abrasive
cleansers since they will damage the cabinet. As a
safety precaution, unplug the unit before cleaning it.
On repacking
Do not throw away the carton and packing materials.
They make an ideal container with which to transport
the unit. When shipping the unit to another location,
repack it as illustrated on the carton.
On use of the Memory Stick
• Do not remove the Memory Stick or the PC card
adapter during the operation of the DRE-S777. If
you did, it might damage the data stored in the
Memory Stick. You can remove them only in the
following cases:
— when the power is turned off,
— when "Eject CD/MS" is selected on the SETUP
display, or
— when "Please change CDROM/MS" or "Please
change licence MS" appears.
• Use the Memory Stick supplied with this unit or those
supplied with optional Sampling Digital Software CD
ROMs only. If the Memory Stick is damaged, consult
your authorized Sony dealer.
• Do not set the erasure prevention switch at the rear
of the Memory Stick to the LOCK position. If you
did, writing and deleting the data on the Memory
Stick could not be performed.
• Do not delete the data in the Memory Stick using a
personal computer, etc. The operation of such a
Memory Stick is not guaranteed.
On handling the Memory Stick
• Do not touch the connector at the rear of the Memory
Stick with hand or metal.
• Do not stick paper or tape on the surface of the
Memory Stick. Only the specified label is suitable.
• Avoid inserting dust or foreign objects into the
Memory Stick insertion slot or the connector on the
PC card adapter.
• Do not expose the Memory Stick to mechanical
shock or bend or drop it.
• Do not disassemble or modify the Memory Stick.
• Avoid use or storage of the Memory Stick in a place
subject to heat sources, direct sunlight, excessive
dust, corrosion, static noise or electrical noise.
• Carry or store the Memory Stick in its holder which
is attached to the CD ROM jacket.
On handling the CD ROM
• Handle the disc by its edge. Do not touch the surface.
• Do not stick paper or tape on the disc.
• Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight, heat sources
or moisture.
• After using, store the disc in its case.
• Clean fingerprints or dust accumulated on the disc
with a cleaning cloth wiping from the center out.
• Do not use solvents such a benzine, thinner,
commercially available cleaners or anti-static spray
intended for vinyl LPs.
If you have any questions about this unit, contact your
authorized Sony dealer.
