4.
[Optional] Assign a server to the volume.
5.
Click OK.
The SAN/iQ operating system software creates the volume. The volume is selected in the
navigation window and the Volume tab view displays the Details tab.
NOTE:
The system automatically factors data protection levels into the settings. For example, if
you create a fully provisioned 500 GB volume and the data protection level is Network RAID- 1 0
(2–Way Mirror), the system automatically allocates 1000 GB for the volume.
Advanced volume settings
To set advanced characteristics for a volume, continue on the Advanced tab of the New Volume
window. Descriptions of the advanced characteristics are found in
(page
156).
1.
Click the Advanced tab on the New Volume window.
2.
Change the desired characteristics and click OK when you are finished.
Viewing the volume map
After you create volumes and finish setting up the SAN, use the Map View tab for viewing the
relationships between volumes, snapshots, servers, and remote copies. For more information on
using the map view tools, see
Editing a volume
Edit a primary volume to change the description, size, and advanced characteristics such as the
cluster, data protection level, type and provisioning.
NOTE:
Moving the volume to a different cluster requires restriping the data in both clusters.
Restriping can take hours, or even days.

Migrating a volume to a different cluster requires the target

Have sufficient storage systems and unallocated space

The volume resides on both clusters until all of the data is
moved to the new cluster. This causes a restripe of the data
on both clusters. For example, you create a new cluster in
the management group to expand the storage capacity in
the management group. You want to migrate an existing
volume to the new cluster as part of the capacity
management.
