Some alarms can take on different severity levels over a period of time. The
occurrence of such an alarm clears any previously raised lower-severity
occurrences of the alarm. To illustrate this, consider the alarm that is raised when
disk usage reaches predefined thresholds defined by the operator such as Minor
when 85 % full, Major when 90 % full, and Critical when 95 % full. A minor
alarm will be raised when the disk is 85 % full. At 90 %, the severity will change
to major and, at 95 %, it will change to critical.

Auto Alarm Suppression

Some failures may raise several related alarms of different severities. A high
severity alarm demanding immediate attention will automatically cause related
lower severity alarms from being reported until it is cleared. This allows you to
focus your troubleshooting efforts on more immediate issues before being told
about the less important ones.
For example, when a Communication Fail alarm is generated on a channel card or
radio unit (RRH), other alarms that occur on these boards will not be reported.
This is because the Communication Fail alarm is a higher severity alarm. The
collection of the suppressed lower-severity alarms resumes after the
Communication Fail alarm is cleared.

Inhibiting Alarms

If, for any reason, you are not interested in being notified about particular alarms,
you can inhibit them so that they are not displayed in LSM. Inhibited alarms are
not saved to the alarm history location.
