KLN 94 Pilot's Guide
APPENDIX G - OPERATIONAL COMPARISON: KLN 94
VS. KLN 89B
If you are an experienced user of the KLN 89B GPS this appendix is for
you. It identifies most of the significant operational enhancements of the
KLN 94 compared to the KLN 89B. Not only have new features been
added to the KLN 94, but shortcut methods have been added to make
existing features even easier to use. The section number of this Pilot's
Guide is included, where applicable, so that you may quickly find and
learn the changes.
• Color display vs. monochrome. The use of color significantly aides
your ability to visually retrieve the desired data from the screen.
• Five lines of data displayed (only four for KLN 89B). This will be
especially helpful on the NAV 4 (Map) page, Flight Plan pages and
APT 5 page (Communication frequencies).
• Improved display format (section 3.3).
• Annuciations (MSG, WPT, GPS APR/ GPS ARM) on dedicated
area of display means remote annunciator/switch may not be
required in many installations. Note: GPS/NAV annunciator
switch will still be required.
• Page annunciation along bottom of display instead of on bezel.
• "SCAN" annunciator on display when the small inner knob is
pulled out.
• "VTF" annunciation on display when Vectors-To-Final loaded or
activated (section 3.3 and 6.2.8).
• Full time display of DTK and TK on all pages except map page
(section 3.3). DTK is displayed full time on map page and TK is an
option (section 3.11.4.2).
• A new procedure (PROC) button and associated means of loading
approaches, DPs and STARS, into Flight Plan 0. The Procedure
button significantly improves the ease of loading these procedures.
(Section 6.2.3 for approach, section 6.3.1 for DP, and section 6.3.2
for STAR).
• Vector-To-Final (VTF) feature. Allows activation of the FAF and the
associated inbound course to the FAF. Eliminates having to put the
unit into OBS to get established on final approach course and then
having to reselect Leg mode. (Sections 6.2.3 and 6.2.8).
• Inclusion of ILS, localizer, and other non-GPS approved approach-
es. These are selected like other approaches and loaded into FPL
0. The unit doesn't go into approach mode on these approaches but
the map provides excellent situational awareness. (Section 6.2.12)
