    WN804 Access Point Use an Ethernet cable to connect the computer to the access point. Launch a browser and enter http://192.168.0.233 in the address field. When prompted to log in, enter admin for the user name and password for the password, both in lowercase letters.

    Connect to the WiFi Network with WPS The WN804 Access Point supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup). You can use the WPS button to add WPS-capable wireless clients to the access point wireless network.

    WN804 Access Point Home Screen The Home screen shows information about the access point and its network settings. Figure 5. Home screen The following menu selections are available: • Home. This screen displays when you log in to the access point.

    WN804 Access Point • Wireless Settings (2.4 GHz). These are the same settings that are specified in the Wireless Settings screen. See Specify Wireless Settings on page 14. • Guest Network. These are the same settings that are specified in the Guest Network screen.
  • Page 15 WN804 Access Point NETGEAR recommends that you do not change your preset security settings. If you change your preset security settings, make a note of the new settings and store it in a safe place where you can easily find it.

    Security Options. The access point comes with unique preset wireless security. These settings are on the product label. NETGEAR recommends that you use preset security so that you can refer to the label if you forget the WiFi password. However, you can change the security option and passphrase.

    WEP is a legacy security option that can be used only with a wireless mode setting of Up to 54 Mbps. Change the Wireless Security Option NETGEAR recommends that you do not disable security.  To change the WPA settings: Select Wireless Settings.

    Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) lets you connect to a secure WiFi network without typing its password. Instead, press a button or enter a PIN. NETGEAR calls WPS Push 'N' Connect. The WPS Wizard helps you add a wireless computer or device to your WiFi network. On the computer or wireless device, either press its WPS button or locate its WPS PIN.

    WN804 Access Point Select WPS Wizard. Click Next. The following screen lets you select the method for adding the WPS client (a wireless device or computer). You can use either the push button or PIN method. Select either Push Button or PIN Number.
  • Page 20 WN804 Access Point  To set up a guest network: Select Guest Network. Select any of the following wireless settings: • Enable Guest Network. When this check box is selected, the guest network is enabled, and guests can connect to your network using the SSID of this profile.

    WN804 Access Point View Attached Devices You can view all computers or devices that are currently connected to your network.  To go to the Attached Devices screen: Select Attached Devices. Wired devices are connected to the access point with Ethernet cables. Wireless devices have joined the wireless network.

    WN804 Access Point Manage the Configuration File The configuration settings of the access point are stored within the access point in a configuration file. You can back up (save) this file to your computer, restore it, or reset it to the factory default settings.

    WN804 Access Point Erase the Current Configuration Settings You can use the Erase button to erase the configuration and restore the factory default settings. You might want to do this if you move the access point to a different network or if you changed the password and have forgotten what it is.

    WN804 Access Point Password Recovery NETGEAR recommends that you enable password recovery if you change the password for the access point user name admin. Then you can recover the password if it is forgotten. This recovery process is supported in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome browsers, but not in the Safari browser.

    WN804 Access Point Wireless AP Update The access point firmware (routing software) is stored in flash memory. You might see a message at the top of the genie screens when new firmware is available for your product. You can use the Check button on the Wireless AP Update screen to check if new firmware is available, and to update your product.

    WN804 Access Point Advanced Wireless Settings You can use this screen to turn the wireless radio on and off, to specify WPS settings, to use AP mode, and to set up a wireless access list. The Fragmentation Length, CTS/RTS Threshold, and Preamble Mode options in this screen are reserved for wireless testing and advanced configuration only.

    WN804 Access Point Set Up a Wireless Schedule You can use this feature to turn off the wireless signal from your access point at times when you do not need a wireless connection. For example, you could turn it off for the weekend if you leave town.
