    SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS General Instructions - Before usage, carefully read this manual and thoroughly familiarize yourself with how to correctly handle the pole hedge trimmer. THIS EQUIPMENT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY IF USED IMPROPERLY! - Always provide detailed instructions on how to correctly use the pole hedge trimmer when lending the equipment to another person.
  • Page 4 Starting the pole hedge trimmer - Before assembling or adjusting the equipment, switch off the engine and remove the spark plug cap. - Before starting the pole hedge trimmer, always make sure that the machine is in safe operational condition. - Never attempt to start the engine if the equipment is damaged.

    4. Make sure that the shaft is properly inserted and then tighten the M5 x 16 bolt and the M5 x 25 bolt. ATTACHING THE HANDLE (for EN4950H) to engine - Fix the loop handle on the shaft as shown.

    FUEL/REFUELLING BEFORE START OF OPERATION Inspection and refill of engine oil - Perform the following procedure, with the engine cooled down. - Set the engine level, remove oil cap (Fig. 1), and check to see whether or not there is oil in the range between the upper limit and lower limit marks of the oil pipe (Fig.
  • Page 12 Note • Do not replace oil with the engine in a tilted position. • Filling with oil while engine is tilted leads to overfilling which causes oil contamination and/or white smoke. Point 2 in Replacement of oil: “If oil spills out” - If oil spills out between the fuel tank and engine main unit, the oil is sucked into through the cooling air intake port, which will contaminate the engine.

    PRECAUTIONS BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE - At all times allow a 15-meter diameter safety zone around the working area. Make sure that all persons (in particular children) and/or animals remain outside this zone. - Before using the pole hedge trimmer, make sure that the machine is in safe operational condition.
  • Page 14 4) Recoil starter Pull the start knob gently until it is hard to pull (compression point). Then, return the start knob, and pull it strongly. Never pull the rope to the full extension. Once the start knob is pulled, never release your hand immediately. Hold the start knob until it returns to its original point.

The grease hole locates under the bolt. Remove the bolt to lubricate. Add approx.
  • Page 20 REPLACEMENT OF ENGINE OIL Deteriorated engine oil will shorten the life of the sliding and rotating parts to a great extent. Be sure to check the period and quantity of replacement. DANGER: In general, the engine main unit and engine oil still remain hot just after the engine is stopped. In replacement of oil, make sure that the engine main unit and engine oil are sufficiently cooled down.

    BRANDSTOF EN BIJVULLEN VÓÓR HET BEGIN VAN HET WERK Controleren en bijvullen van de motorolie - Voer de volgende procedure uit bij koude motor. - Plaats de motor horizontaal, draai de olievuldop eraf (zie afb. 1) en controleer of het oliepeil tussen de inwendige randen voor de boven- en ondergrens van de oliebuis staat (zie afb.
  • Page 36 Opmerking • Ververs de olie niet met de motor in een gekantelde positie. • Als olie wordt bijgevuld terwijl de motor is gekanteld, kan te veel olie worden bijgevuld waardoor verontreiniging en/of witte rook wordt veroorzaakt. Tip 2 bij het verversen van de olie: “Olielekkage” - Als olie eruit lekt tussen de brandstoftank en het motorblok, wordt de olie via de koelluchtinlaatopening naar binnen gezogen waardoor de motor verontreinigd raakt.

    VOORZORGSMAATREGELEN VÓÓR HET STARTEN VAN DE MOTOR - Bewaar altijd een veiligheidszone met een diameter van 15 meter rondom het werkgebied. Zorg ervoor dat iedereen (maar met name kinderen) en/of dieren buiten deze zone blijven. - Alvorens de stokheggenschaar te gebruiken, zorgt u ervoor dat het gereedschap op een veilige manier gebruiksklaar is.
  • Page 38 4) Trekstartinrichting Trek voorzichtig aan de trekstarthandgreep tot u weerstand voelt (compressiepunt). Laat de trekstarthandgreep terugtrekken en trek er vervolgens krachtig aan. Trek nooit door tot aan het einde van het trekstartkoord. Nadat aan de trekstarthandgreep is getrokken, mag u hem niet onmiddellijk loslaten.

    OPMERKING: Voordat u de afstelling maakt, zet u de motor uit en wacht u tot de messenbladen stilstaan. In de messenbladen zit een gleuf rondom de zeskantbout (2).   • Page 43 Smeervet bijvullen Smeeropening Belangrijk: Controleer of het oppervlak van het tandwielhuis volledig koud is (onder de bout) voordat u smeert. - Het tandwielhuis van de stokheggenschaar moet elke 25 bedrijfsuren worden gesmeerd. De smeeropening zit onder de bout. Verwijder de bout om te kunnen smeren.
  • Page 44 MOTOROLIE VERVERSEN Verslechterde motorolie verkort sterk de levensduur van de draaiende delen van de motor. Controleer het verversingsinterval en de bijvulhoeveelheid. GEVAAR: Over het algemeen zijn de motor zelf en de motorolie heet kort nadat de motor is uitgeschakeld. Alvorens de motorolie te verversen, controleert u op de motor zelf en de motorolie voldoende zijn afgekoeld.
  • Page 45 5) Plaats de motor horizontaal en vul geleidelijk nieuwe motorolie bij tot aan de markering van de bovengrens (6). Als de olievuldop niet stevig wordt vastgedraaid, kan deze gaan lekken.
  • Page 46 DE AFDICHTINGEN EN PAKKINGEN VERVANGEN Vervang de pakkingen en afdichtingen als de motor gedemonteerd is. Voor alle onderhoudswerkzaamheden en afstellingen die niet in deze handleiding worden beschreven, neemt u contact op met u uw plaatselijk, erkend MAKITA- servicecentrum.

    OPSLAG WAARSCHUWING: Voordat u begint met het aftappen van de brandstof, zet u de motor uit en wacht u totdat de motor is afgekoeld. Als u dat niet doet kan dat leiden tot brandwonden of brand. LET OP: Als u het gereedschap gedurende een lange tijd opbergt, tapt u alle brandstof af uit de brandstoftank en carburateur, en bergt u hem op een droge en schone plaats op.

    PROBLEMEN OPLOSSEN Alvorens een verzoek voor reparatie in te dienen, controleer u de storing zelf aan de hand van de onderstaande tabel.
