Upgrading Microcode
Upgrading Microcode
Network interface cards contain microcode, which is interface-specific software that interoperates
with the system software. The CSC-C2CTR microcode is contained on a single erasable
programmable read-only memory (EPROM) component, which is located in socket U98. You may
need to replace the CSC-C2CTR EPROM when upgrading your system software or to add new
functionality to the card when it becomes available. Use the show controller cbus command
(described in the section "System Compatibility Requirements" on page 6) to display the current
microcode version installed on the CSC-C2CTR and all ciscoBus interface cards. Refer to Figure 16
for component locations while performing the following steps.

extractor available, use the tip of the screwdriver blade to gently pry the EPROM out of its
socket.
Install the new EPROM in socket U98. Make sure that the notched end has the same
orientation as the EPROM you removed. Do not use the orientation of the label to align the
new EPROM.
