Installation Prerequisites
At startup, the system polls each Multibus interface card, beginning with the lowest card number,
and assigns a sequential interface address to each port (interface) on each card. When all Multibus
interfaces are assigned, the system proceeds to the ciscoBus cards and continues the interface
address sequence as it polls the ciscoBus cards according to the ciscoBus slot priority. (Refer to the
section "Slot Priority" on page 9.)
These numbering schemes allow the system to distinguish each interface card while sequentially
numbering like interfaces (such as Token Ring interfaces on CSC-2Rs and CSC-C2CTRs). Table 3
is an example of how the system assigns Token Ring interface addresses in a chassis with two
CSC-2Rs (two ports each) and two CSC-C2CTRs (four ports each). The CSC-2R is a Multibus card,
and the CSC-C2CTR is a ciscoBus card; therefore, the CSC-2R interface addresses are assigned
first. The example in Table 3 shows the maximum number of 16 Token Ring interfaces allowable in
an AGS+ without exceeding the power budget (also see the section "Compatibility with Other
Cards" on page 15).
Chassis Limitations
A maximum number of two CSC-C2CTRs can be installed in an AGS+ chassis. This limit is due to
the internal space available for the APP-LTR2s, which are installed in an applique card cage. Each
APP-LTR2 provides two interface ports; therefore, each CSC-C2CTR requires two APP-LTR2s
when all four ports are used. Since each applique card cage holds two appliques, and a maximum of
two applique card cages can be installed in an AGS+, a maximum of two CSC-C2CTRs and four
APP-LTR2s can be installed in an AGS+. A top-down view of the AGS+ with two card cages
installed is shown in Figure 7.
