Battery
If
the
motorcycle
is
operated
wi
th
an in-
sufficient
(low) battery electro lyte level,
su lfation
and
battery

late damage
may
occur.
Inspecti

tain ing
the
electrolyte
level
is a simple,
quick
opera-
tion
and
shoul
d be
performed
fre quently
as
i
ndicated
in
the
MAINTENANCE
SCHED
UL
E
(refer
to
page
26).
1.
The
12
V-
9 AH
battery
is
mounted
under
the
seat.
Access
t
o the
battery
is
ob
tained
by
releasing the
sea
t latch
at
the front
end
under
the
seat and
raising
the front.
Use
the stay attached
to the
under
side
of
th
e
seat to
hold the
seat
i
n the
r aised
positio
n.
Remove the
bat
tery
set
ting
rubber
and
r
aise
th
e
b
attery
slightly to check
the
ba ttery electro ly
te.
The correct
electro lyte
level
is between
the lower
@
and
upper
©
level
marks
on the battery
case
2.
To
correct
th
e electrolyte level,
re-
move the
battery
ce
ll
ca ps® from
the
ce lls
r
equiring
level
correction.
A sma
ll
syringe or plastic
funnel sho uld be used
in adding
the
proper
amount
of
di-
stilled wa
ter
to
bring
th
e electrolyte
level
of the cells between
the
lower
and
upper marks.
For
maximum
bat-
tery
performance
and
l
ife, only
distilled
wa
ter
shoul
d
be added, however,
in an
emergency
si
tuati
on w
here
electrolyte
level
is
found
to be low and
distilled

Pay parti-
cular
attention to
the
battery
rubber
moun
ts pads
and the
vent
tube rou
ting.
Th
e
vent
tube shou ld no
t
be
pinched
or
bent
excessively
or
th
e
battery may
be damaged.
