ad justment, recheck the contact breaker
point gap

sure tha t it has not changed.

check the ti mi ng, idle t he engine at
1,200 rpm .
Perform t he ad justment in the same
man ner as described above.
Valve Tappet C learance
Excessive valve tappet clearance will cause
tappet noise, and little or no clearance
wi ll cause valve damage and loss of
power. Ther efore, the valve tappet clear-
ance shou l d be properly maintained.
The valve tappet clearance is checked
wi th the engine co ld.
1.
Remove the generator cover and tappet
ad just ing hole caps.
2. Rotate the generator rotor counter-
clockwise unti l the "T" mark © on the
generator rotor lines up with the tim ing
i ndex mar k

on the stator. In this
position, the piston may be either on
the compression or exhaust stroke.
