Increments on reception of a frame longer than 1632 bytes and either

a CRC error or an alignment error (or both) is also detected. Also

increments for frames longer than 2032 bytes.

Collisions

Increments on each collision detected on the port.

normal events in half-duplex Ethernet LANs (as long as they occur

within the first 64-byte-time periods of a frame transmission). On such

collision, the transmitter waits a random number of 512-bit-time periods

before it attempts retransmission of the frame.

Note: For a port in full-duplex mode, this counter is disabled.

Late Collisions

Increments on each late collision detected on the port.

Late collision is a collision that occurred after the first 64 bytes of a

frame had been transmitted. No retransmission is performed upon its

detection. Occurrence of late collisions is considered to be a serious

error, often caused by improper LAN configuration (e.g. if long cables

are used).

Note: For a port in full-duplex mode, this counter is disabled.

Excessive Collisions

Increments on each "excessive collision" event registered on the port.

An "excessive collisions" event is registered after 16 unsuccessful

retransmissions of the same frame (e.g. due to a busy LAN) in which

case the frame is discarded.

Note: For a port in full-duplex mode, this counter is disabled.

Note: Unless the network is very busy, "excessive collisions" events

should not happen.
