mization of radial run-out
11.1

Radial run-out measurement

The term radial run-out refers to the difference
between the raised and flat areas of a tire or rim. A
radial run-out of more than 1.5 mm (0.06 inch), mea-
sured in the center of the tread, can cause vehicle
vibration.

The values for the tire are not calculated and dis-
played until the two wheel and rim true-running
measurements have ben performed.
11.1.1 Measurement of wheel true-running
with laser

The true-running of the wheel can be measured au-
tomatically after each unbalance measurement (refer
to Section 8.4.2).

Measurement can be stopped at any time with <OK>.
1. Open the "Balancing page".

2. Press <r><r><r> and <OK> from the "Balancing
page".
« The radial run-out menu bar is opened.
3. Start measurement of the full wheel with <r> and
<OK>.
« Laser measurement of the full wheel is started.

After measurement, the result of the wheel
diagnosis is displayed on the monitor (refer to Sec-
tion 11.2).
11.1.2 Measurement of rim true-running with
vernier caliper

To obtain accurate results, always keep the vernier
caliper pressed evenly against the rim flange during
the measurement.
1. Apply the vernier caliper to the rim flange.
2. Start measurement of the true-running of the rim
with <r> <r> and <OK> (GO).
3. Return the vernier caliper to the initial position.

After measurement, the result of the rim diagnosis is
displayed on the monitor (refer to Section 11.2).
11.1.3

Tire value

The tire value is determined automatically from the re-
sults of the wheel and rim diagnosis and displayed on
the monitor.
