Chapter 4. Configuration Commands

This chapter discusses how to use the Command Line Interface (CLI) for making,
viewing and saving switch configuration changes. Many of the commands,
although not new, display more or different information than in the previous
version. Important differences are called out in the text.

Command Syntax and Usage
copy activeconfig runningconfig
Copy the active configuration to the current (running) configuration.
Command mode: Privileged EXEC
copy activeconfig <TFTP server filepath> [dataport|mgtport]
Backs up the active configuration to a file on the specified TFTP server.
For example:
copy activeconfig tftp://10.72.97.135:/directory/config.txt mgtport
Command mode: Privileged EXEC
copy <TFTP server filepath> activeconfig [dataport|mgtport]
Restores the active configuration from a file on the specified TFTP server.
For example:
copy tftp://10.72.97.135:/directory/config.txt activeconfig mgtport
Command mode: Privileged EXEC
copy backupconfig runningconfig
Copy the backup configuration to the current (running) configuration.
Command mode: Privileged EXEC
copy backupconfig <TFTP server filepath> [dataport|mgtport]
Backs up the backup configuration to a file on the specified TFTP server.
For example:
copy backupconfig tftp://10.72.97.135:/directory/config.txt mgtport
Command mode: Privileged EXEC
copy <TFTP server filepath> backupconfig [dataport|mgtport]
Restores the backup configuration from a file on the specified TFTP server.
For example:
copy tftp://10.72.97.135:/directory/config.txt backupconfig mgtport
Command mode: Privileged EXEC
copy runningconfig backupconfig
Copy the current (running) configuration from switch memory to the
backupconfig partition. For details, see page
