4-1 Preparing for Playback
Shuttle mode playback
Note
The search dial is factory set to toggle between jog and shuttle modes
when pressed. You can, however, cancel this setting.
For details, refer to "3-2-1 Items That Require Setting for Operations"on page 3-
2.
Follow the procedure below to play back in shuttle mode.

Push in the search dial or the SHUTTLE button so that the SHUTTLE
indicator lights.
Each time you press the dial, the VTR toggles between jog mode and
shuttle mode. The JOG or SHUTTLE indicator lights to indicate the
selected mode.
The p indicator lights and the VTR enters still-picture mode.
Whenever you turn the VTR on, always set the search dial to the center
position, so that the p indicator lights.

Rotate the search dial in the direction of playback until the angle of
rotation corresponds to the playback speed that you want.
The playback speed corresponds to the angle of rotation of the search
dial. One of the direction indicators (Z or z) lights to show the
direction of playback.
The search dial clicks at positions corresponding to –10, 0, and +10
times normal speed.

To stop shuttle mode playback, set the search dial to the center position
for still-picture, or press the STOP button for stop mode.
To return to normal-speed playback
Press the PLAY button.
