CHECKING THE COOLING SYSTEM
1. Check:
• Radiator "1"
• Radiator inlet hose "2"
• Radiator outlet hose "3"
• Water pump inlet pipe "4"
• Water pump outlet pipe "5"
• Oil cooler "6"
• Oil cooler outlet hose "7"
• Oil cooler inlet hose "8"
Cracks/damage → Replace.
Refer to "RADIATOR" on page 6-3, "OIL
COOLER" on page 6-7, "THERMOSTAT" on
page 6-9 and "WATER PUMP" on page 6-13.

CHANGING THE COOLANT
1. Remove:
• Front side cowling (right)
• Front muffler protector (right)
Refer to "GENERAL CHASSIS (5)" on page
4-16.
• Radiator cap "1"

WARNING
A hot radiator is under pressure. Therefore,
do not remove the radiator cap when the en-
gine is hot. Scalding hot fluid and steam may
be blown out, which could cause serious in-
jury. When the engine has cooled, open the
radiator cap as follows:
Place a thick rag or a towel over the radiator
cap and slowly turn the radiator cap counter-
clockwise toward the detent to allow any re-

sidual pressure to escape. When the hissing
sound has stopped, press down on the radi-
ator cap and turn it counterclockwise to re-
move.
2. Remove:
• Water pump drain bolt "1"
• Copper washer "2"
3. Drain:
• Coolant
(from the engine and radiator)
4. Install:
• Water pump drain bolt
• Copper washer
Water pump drain bolt
10 N·m (1.0 kgf·m, 7.4 lb·ft)
5. Remove:
• Coolant reservoir cap "1"
6. Remove:
• Coolant reservoir bolt "1"
• Coolant reservoir "2"
