4-1 Using the SCSI Disk Surveillance Tool

This section explains how to use the SCSI Disk
Surveillance Tool.

4-1-1 Overview

The SCSI Disk Surveillance Tool is comprised of
SCSI Disk Watcher and the Surveillance Service
Application.
SCSI Disk Watcher is utility software for surveillance
of SCSI hard disks connected to the workstation.
Using SCSI log sense data acquired by the
Surveillance Service Application, it performs basic
diagnostics of disk status and provides an approximate
guide to maintenance timing. It also allows you to
check log sense data history and save log sense data to
files.
Surveillance Target Disks
Surveillance by SCSI Disk Watcher is limited to hard
disks which comply with the ANSI SCSI standard, and
to hard disks with fibre channel interfaces.
Note
For the disks and devices listed below, it may not be
possible to acquire data, display data, or otherwise
operate as expected.
• IDE disks or other hard disks without a SCSI
interface
• SCSI devices other than hard disks
• RAID systems
