3-4-3 DVD-Video Playback and
Region Codes
The playback of the DVD-Video (DVD discs) is
protected and controlled by a region code setting
In order for the DVD/CD RW drive to play back
DVD-Video discs, the region code on the DVD disc,
the region code of the DVD/CD RW drive, and the
region code of the DVD-Video software must all
match.
DVD-Video playback and region codes
with the DRU-510A
With the DRU-510A, the region code can be set up to
five times, including the initial assignment (RPC Phase
2 standard). The DVD-Video playback software sets
the DRU-510A region code.
Important
After setting the region code five times (including the
initial setting), the setting becomes permanent and can
no longer be changed. From this point on, you are only
able to play back DVD-Video discs whose region code
matches the one set the fifth time.
Note
Do not attempt to make unauthorized changes to the
region code. Any problems resulting from doing so are
not covered by the warranty.
Points to consider when playing DVD-Video
discs
DVD-Video disc playback conditions are sometimes
determined by software manufacturers. Because the
DRU-510A plays back discs as determined by
software manufacturers, some drive functions may not
always perform as expected. When playing back
DVD-Video discs, refer to the instructions
accompanying each disc.

Region free DVD-Video playback
It is necessary to set the DRU-510A region code the
first time that you use it. If you play back a region free
DVD-Video disc immediately after installing the

DRU-510A, the message "This disc is inhibited from
playing because of area limits" may appear, preventing
you to play back the disc. To rectify this problem, play
back a normal DVD-Video disc (one that is not region
free) with PowerDVD (supplied with DRU-510A).
This sets the DRU-510A region code, allowing you to
play back region free DVD-Video discs.
