You do not always need to be concerned with the
contents of POST, but you should check the messages
displayed on the screen in the following situations.
• When starting the Main Unit for the first time
• When you think the system may be malfunctioning
Information displayed by POST
The SONY logo is displayed while POST is running
(except during the SCSI check), but the information in
the following figure appears if you press the Esc key.
POST starts
m
Memory count: Memory check
m 1 minute to several minutes
Names of connected devices: Detection of connected devices
m
Press <Ctrl> <A> for SCSI Select(TM) Utility!: Press the indicated keys to start the SCSI BIOS Setup Utility (detect optional SCSI
controller).
m
To change the SCSI settings: Follow the instructions on the screen. POST stops running.
To leave the settings as they are: Do nothing. POST continues to run.
m
SCSI ID: Detect the SCSI IDs of connected devices.
m
Press <F2> to enter SETUP, Press <F12> to Network: You can press these keys to start the BIOS Setup Utilities.

To change the BIOS settings: Follow the instructions on the screen. POST stops running.
For details, contact your Sony service representative.
To leave the settings as they are: Do nothing. POST continues to run.
m Do nothing.
POST finishes.
Notes
• Depending on your system configuration, messages
instructing you to "Press Any Key" may appear.
These are BIOS messages from installed option
boards. Before pressing a key, you should consult the
manual of the option board.
• When beep sounds are heard repeatedly between the
time when you power the Main Unit on and the time
when Windows 2000 starts
• When an error message appears on the screen
• If you install a new option board in a PCI slot,
remove an existing board, or reinstall boards in
different slots, POST stop running after displaying a
message to the effect that the configuration of the
installed boards is incorrect.
If this occurs, press the F1 key to restart POST, and
use the BIOS Setup Utility to set or change the board
configuration.
