Adjusting theGauge Wheels
DeckRemoval
Keephandsandfeet awayfrom the dischargeopening of the cutting deck.
NOTE: The deckgaugewheelsareananti-scalpfeatureofthe deckandarenot
designed to support t he weight ofthe cuttingdeck.
Themowerdeckcuttingheightcanbesetinanyofsixheightsettingsusingthe
ridingmower'sdecklift handle. T hedeckheightsrangefrom 1-1_ " to 4".Thedeck
gaugewheelpositionshouldbeapproximately Y 4-_" above the groundwhenthe
deckissetinthe desiredheightsetting.
Using the lift handle, s etthe deck inthe desired heightsetting,thencheck thegauge
wheeldistance f rom thegroundbelow.Ifnecessary adjustasfollows:
1.
Visually c heck thedistance between the frontgaugewheelandtheground.
Ifthe gauge wheelis near o r touching theground,itshouldberaised. I fmore
than_" above the ground, i t shouldbelowered.
2.
Remove t he flangelocknut securing thefront gaugewheelshoulder bolt to
the deck.Remove t he gaugewheelandshoulder bolt. Refer t o Figure 29.

Insertthe shoulder bolt intothe oneoffour index holesinthe front gauge
wheelbracket t hatwill givethe gaugewheela _/4-_ " clearance w ith the
groundandsecure with theflangelocknut.
4.
Notetheindex holeofthejustadjusted wheel,andadjustthe reargaugewheel
into the respective i ndex holes of theothergauge wheelbracket onthe deck.
Remove t he mowerdeckfrom thetractorasfollows:
1.
Movethe tractorto a level s urface, d isengage the PTO, stopthe engine,and
setthe parkingbrake.
2.
Movethe deck gaugewheelsto theirhighestsetting(lowestdeck setting).
3.
Remove t he 'V'belt from the PTO pulley,locatedonthe bottomof the
engine,usingoneofthe followingtwo methods.
Themuffler at the rearof the tractor may beextremely hot, and could
causeseriousburns.Useextremecaution when nearthe muffler. Allow the
muffler to fully cool beforeremoving the belt from the PTOpulley.

Using the deck lift handle, r aise thedeckto the position that provides
the mosthorizontal runof the beltbetween thedeckidlerpulleys and
the PTO pulleyonthebottomof theengine.See Figure 30.
