Removing Fromcarton; Before Assembly - Craftsman 247.881701 Operator's Manual

IMPORTANT: This unit is shipped with the engine full of oil. After
assembly, see page 10 for fuel and oil details.
Removing FromCarton
1. Cutthe corners of the cartonandlaythe sides flat on theground. Remove all
packinginserts.
2. Movethe snowthrowerout of the carton.
3. Makecertainthe cartonhasbeencompletely emptiedbefore discardingit.
DoNOT lift the snowthrower bythe chutehandle.
Before Assembly
NOTE: Reference t o right, left, front or rearofthe unit isfrom the operating
position, f acingforward,unless otherwisestated.
Setting UpThe Handle
NOTE: B eawareof the threeloosely fitted cabletiesattached to the lowerhandle
thatwill be utilizedlaterto secure the cables.
1. Loosen andremove the wing knob,saddle washer, h andletab andcarriage
screw on eachsideof the lowerhandle. S eeFigure 1.
2. Slide the loosely fitted cabletiefrom the right sideofthe lowerhandleup to
the cross member o f the lowerhandle.Leave the second cabletie in place on
the rightsideof the lowerhandle.SeeFigure 3forreference.
IMPORTANT: It will be necessary to lift the upper handle while
sliding up this cable tie to prevent damage to the cable.
3. Lift the upperhandleupandpositionit overthe lowerhandle,aligningthe
holeswherethe wingknobswereremoved (1).SeeFigure 2.
Becareful not to bend or kinkthe cables.

Inserta carriage screwfromthe outsidethroughahandletab,the upperand k,,,
lowerhandles, a saddlewasher andinto the wingknob(2).Repeat o n the
otherside. _-
5. Tighten the wing knobs on eachsideof the handle.Refer t o Figure 2.
NOTE: Theaugercableroutesdownthe left lowerhandle andthe drivecable
isroutedacross the top ofthe lowerhandle anddownthe rightsideof the
lowerhandle.SeeFigure 3.
6. Twocabletieshavebeenusedto loosely tie the control c ables to the lower
handle.Apushclip isalsoincluded onthe lowerdrivecable.Position cable
tiesnow,asinFigure 3,andtighten to secure cables to the lowerhandle.
Trimoff excess m aterial o f cableties.Installthe pushclipinto the holein the
handleprovided asshownin the left insetin Figure 3.
