The antenna to be used should first be checked with
a dip meter to insure that it is designed
for your
operating
band,
then
the
impedance
matching
should be checked with an SWR meter. (Fig. 8-3)
The VSWR
should preferably be less than 1.5:1 for
satisfactory operation. For antenna adjustment refer
to the antenna instruction manual.

(4) Antenna matching
In general, mobile antennas have a lower impedance
than the 50-ohm
coaxial cable used to feed them,
resulting in a mismatch between the antenna and the
coax.
Such trouble
can
be eliminated
by using an
antenna tuner between the transceiver and the coax-
ial cable.
