Directives and standards

The chapter states the standards and directives that are applicable to the encoder.

Relevant directives
The following directives are relevant for the encoder.
European Machinery Directive
The encoder is classed as a partly completed machine and falls under the EC Machinery
Directive 2006/42/EC.
However, the product has been fully assessed for compliance with the main regulations in
this directive concerning health and safety.
European EMC Directive
The encoder does not fall under the EMC Directive. The encoder is not considered to be a
device within the meaning of the directive. Mounted on a motor, converter, or power drive
system that meets the requirements of the relevant EMC Directive.
European RoHS Directive
The encoder complies with directive 2011/65/EU regarding limiting the use of certain
hazardous substances.
European Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
The encoder complies with the 2012/19/EU directive on taking back and recycling waste
electrical and electronic equipment.

Encoder systems with DRIVE-CLiQ interface

The DRIVE‑CLiQ encoder interface is provided for the SINAMICS‑S120 converter system. Signal
transmission to the converter is performed digitally. The DRIVE‑CLiQ rotary encoder has an
electronic rating plate. Commissioning and diagnostics are simplified.
