Note that for type of operation both the D E L A Y T I M E
M U L T and trigger L E V E L affect the start of the B s w e e p
so that the delay time is used a s a reference point.

[4] ALTERNATING SWEEP OPERATION

A s w e e p and B s w e e p are usable in an alternating fashion
making it possible to observe both the normal and magni-
fied waveform simultaneously.
Procedure:
1. Select the HORIZ D I S P L A Y s w i t c h to A and adjust for a
normal waveform display.
2. Pull out the P U L L S T A R T S A F T E R D E L A Y control and
select the HORIZ D I S P L A Y to A L T . Adjust T R A C E S E P
®
for easy observation of both the A and B traces.
T h e upper trace is the non-magnified
waveform with the magnified portion super-imposed a s
an intensified section. T h e lower waveform is the i n -
tensified portion displayed magnified.
B I N T E N S I T Y can be used to adjust the intensity of the
super-imposed waveform.
3. T h e D E L A Y T I M E M U L T control can be used to contin-
uously slide the magnified portion of the waveform
across the A s w e e p period to allow magnification of
precisely the desired portion of waveform.
4 . Apparent display jitter increases with increased magni-
fication a s is the case with delayed s w e e p discussed
above. By cancelling the magnified operating mode by
pushing in the P U L L S T A R T S A F T E R D E L A Y control, B
trigger L E V E L control c a n be used to s e t the trigger
point.

[5] DUAL SWEEP OPERATION

Up until n o w w e have discussed using the B s w e e p to dis-
play only a Delayed s w e e p of the A s w e e p signal. In the
D U A L mode A and B s w e e p s are performed
so that t w o non time-related signals can be observed at
one time.

Procedure:
T h e A s w e e p and B s w e e p are controlled by A trigger and
B trigger controls respectively.
While triggering of A and B s w e e p s independently using
the input signals themselves is quite simple and presents
no particular problems, use of a common trigger source or
use of A to trigger B and vice versa can result in some i m -
possible triggering conditions for signals that are not relat-
ed to each other in a timing sense.
For D U A L operation the A and B s w e e p s alternate regard-
less of the setting of the A L T and CHOP s w i t c h e s .

A s w e e p is triggered by alternate signals from
channel 1 and channel 2, but only the channel 1
signal on the display is triggered.
A s w e e p is triggered by alternate signals from
channel 1 through channel 2, but only the channel
1 and channel 3 signals on the display are trig-
gered.
A s w e e p is triggered by channel 1 signal and c h a n -
nel 1 and channel 3 signals are displayed.
A s w e e p is triggered by channel 3 signal and c h a n -
nel 1 and channel 3 signals are displayed.
B s w e e p is triggered by channel 2 signal and c h a n -
nel 2 and channel 4 signals are displayed.
B s w e e p is triggered by channel 4 signal but c h a n -
nel 2 and channel 4 signals are displayed.
If there is no time relation between channel 1 and
channel 2 input, triggering is not possible.
