(1) T h e S O U R C E s w i t c h selects the signal to be used as
the s y n c trigger. W h e n the V. M O D E position is s e -
lected, the trigger source is dependent upon the verti-
cal MODE selection. In this manner, each waveform
being observed becomes its o w n trigger signal; e.g.,
w h e n the vertical M O D E is changed from CH 1 to CH
2, the source signal is also changed from channel 1 to
channel 2. T h i s also permits synchronization of w a v e -
forms (even without a timing relationship) in the
D U A L and Q U A D modes.
timing comparison is desired in D U A L and Q U A D
modes, all w a v e f o r m s must be triggered by the same
source, and the V. M O D E position is unsuitable. Also,
as explained previously, CHOP cannot be used in c o n -
junction w i t h V. M O D E in D U A L or Q U A D mode. If the
S O U R C E s w i t c h is set to the CH 1 (or CH 2) position,
the channel 1 (or CH 2) input signal is the trigger
source, regardless of the vertical mode. CH 1 (or CH
2) is often used as the trigger source w h e n timing
comparison is desired. If the S O U R C E s w i t c h is set to
the CH 3 position, the signal applied to the CH 3 or A
E X T T R I G jack becomes the trigger source. T h i s s i g -
nal must have a timing relationshiop to the displayed
w a v e f o r m s for a synchronized display.
mode, the signal applied to the CH 3 or A E X T T R I G
jack becomes both the trigger source and the dis-
played channel 3 signal. If the S O U R C E s w i t c h is set
to LINE position, triggering is derived from the input
line voltage. T h i s is useful measurements that are re-
lated to line frequency.
(2) After setting S O U R C E , adjust the trigger L E V E L c o n -
trol to set the trigger point. Trigering is indicated by
the green L E D lighting.
A s necessary to obtain a stable synchronized signal
display, adjust H O L D O F F ®
trols.
If the S L O P E control is pulled out, the trigger level is
put into the FIX mode with the trigger point at the
center of the waveform.
(3) Adjust the A S W E E P T I M E / D I V @
propriate display of the signal input. If required, use
the A V A R I A B L E @ control a s well.
T h i s completes the adjustment procedure for normal
A s w e e p display operation.
[2] MAGNIFIED SWEEP OPERATION
S i n c e merely shortening the s w e e p time to magnify a por-
tion of an observed waveform can result in the desired
portion disappearing off the screen, s u c h magnified dis-
play should be performed using the MAGNIFIED S W E E P .
Procedure:
Using the <«• POSITION control, adjust the desired portion
of waveform to the center of the C R T . Pull out the FINE

times.
For this type of display the s w e e p time is the
S W E E P T I M E / D I V setting divided by 10.

[3] DELAYED SWEEP OPERATION
Delayed s w e e p operation is achieved by use of both the A
s w e e p and the B sweep.
Procedure:
1. First select the HORIZ D I S P L A Y s w i t c h to A and adjust
the scope for a normal waveform display.
2. Pull out the, P U L L S T A R T S A F T E R D E L A Y ®
to set the s w e e p in the S T A R T S A F T E R D E L A Y mode.
Select the HORIZ D I S P L A Y to the A - I N T - B mode and a
portion of the B s w e e p representing the B S W E E P
T I M E / D I V will appear as an intensified portion of the A
sweep. T h e B s w e e p intensity is adjusted using the B
I N T E N S I T Y control ® .
3. Shift the intensified portion of w a v e f o r m (section to be
magnified) along the A s w e e p by use of the D E L A Y
T I M E M U L T <£§).
4 . Select the HORIZ D I S P L A Y s w i t c h to B DLY'D to d i s -
play the A - I N T - B intensified portion a s a magnified B
D L Y ' D sweep.

5. For S T A R T S A F T E R D E L A Y operation, apparent jitter
increases a s magnification increases. T o obtain a jitter
free display, push in the S L O P E , P U L L S T A R T S A F T E R
