[1] If the tail number is recognized as a US registered tail number, the ICAO address can be automatically filled
by the GDL 82 by selecting the Compute ICAO button. It must be verified against the aircraft registration
records.
[2] Use the aircraft landing configuration stall speed (Vs0) as specified in the aircraft pilot operating handbook
(POH) or aircraft approved flight manual supplement (AFMS).
[3] The discrete input/output are active-low that are grounded when active/set and open when inactive/clear.
5.2.3 External GPS Source Configuration
The GDL 82 can be interfaced to a Garmin GTN 6XX/7XX series navigator, GNS 400W/500W series
navigator, or GNS 480 navigator as an external GPS sources. GPS navigators interfaced to GDL 82
provide GPS PVT data via RS-232. Required navigator software version and configuration setting are
shown in Table 5-2. Interfacing a GDL 82 to a navigator other than that listed in Table 5-2 requires
separate airworthiness approval. For the Garmin GPS navigators, the GPS/WAAS engine software must
be 5.0 (or later) to meet the ADS-B Out position source requirements specified in 14 CFR 91.227.

To configure the GTN 6XX/7XX:
1. Push and hold the HOME key of the GTN 6XX/7XX unit.
2. Power on the GTN 6XX/7XX unit.
3. Release the HOME key when the display shows.
4. Select the GTN Setup page.
5. Select the RS-232 page.
6. Configure the RS-232 Port that is interfaced to the GDL 82 as specified in Table 5-2.
To configure the GNS 400W/500W Series Navigators:
1. Push and hold the ENT key of the GNS 400W/500W Series unit.
2. Power on the GNS 400W/500W Series unit.
3. Release the ENT key when the display activates.
4. While in configuration mode, rotate the small right knob to select pages.
To change data on the configuration page:
1. Push the small right knob to select the cursor.
2. Rotate the large right knob to move between data fields.
3. Rotate the small right knob to change a highlighted field.
4. Push the ENT key to accept the entry.
5. Configure the RS-232 Port that is interfaced to the GDL 82 as specified in Table 5-2.
