8. Clean around the oil dipstick and unscrew the cap
(Fig. 16).
9. Slowly pour approximately 80% of the specified oil into
the filler cap (Fig. 16). Refer to Servicing the Engine
Oil, page 22.
10. Check the oil level; refer to Checking the Oil Level,
page 22.
11. Slowly add additional oil to bring it to the full mark.
Changing the Oil Filter
Replace the oil filter every 200 hours or every other oil
change.
Note: Change the oil filter more frequently when operating
conditions are extremely dusty or sandy.
1. Drain the oil from the engine; refer to Changing and
Draining the Oil, page 22.
2. Remove the old filter (Fig. 18).
3. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the rubber gasket on the
replacement filter (Fig. 18).

4. Install the replacement oil filter to the adapter. Turn the
oil filter clockwise until the rubber gasket contacts the
filter adapter, then tighten the filter an additional
3/4 turn (Fig. 18).
5. Fill the crankcase with the proper type of new oil; refer
to Changing and Draining the Oil, page 22.

Cleaning the Cooling System

Clean the air intake screen from grass and debris before
each use.
Clean the cooling fins and engine shrouds every 300 hours
or yearly, whichever comes first.
1. Disengage the PTO and move the control levers to the
neutral locked position and apply the parking brake.
2. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
3. Remove the air intake screen, cylinder covers, and fan
housing.
4. Clean debris and grass from the parts.
5. Install the air intake screen, cylinder covers, and fan
housing.
