Overview Please follow the steps below to set your 3 E5830 Wireless Modem device up on your PC. Though the device comes with a default SSID (the wifi ‘name’ of the device that comes up when you scan for available networks) and a default security key, it is recommended that you personalise this, to make your device’s network more secure. The instructions given here are for Windows Vista, but apply to Windows XP as well (Some terminology might change if you’re using Windows XP, but the setup process remains the same) ...
Setup Instructions Step 1 Insert your SIM card into the E5830 Wireless Modem, and connect it to your Windows PC using the supplied USB cable. Make sure the device is powered off when you do this. Windows should recognize it, and the ‘Installing device driver software’ balloon is seen in the system tray. Step 2 After the driver install process is complete, an AutoPlay popup is seen. Step 2 (a) If this popup doesn’t appear for some reason: 1. Open the ‘Computer’ window (or ‘My Computer’ on Windows XP) 2. Double‐Click on ‘CD Drive (X:) 3 Mobile’ (‘X’ in this case can be any drive letter) 3. In the window that opens, double click on DataCard_Setup.exe ...

Step 3 On Windows Vista, a User Account Control prompt pops up. Click on ‘Allow’ Step 4 A Setup window appears. Follow the Setup through by clicking on ‘Next’ where relevant. After Setup, when prompted to restart the pc, click on ‘Reboot Now’ (You can select ‘I want to manually reboot later’ if you wish, but do restart before launching the program) Unplug the device before rebooting your PC. ...

Step 5 After the PC reboots, plug the device in. You should get the same AutoPlay popup as before. Click on ‘Run Autorun.exe’ and then on ‘Allow’ on the UAC (User Account Control) prompt Step 5(a) If you don’t get the AutoPlay popup, click on the start menu. Navigate to All Programs > 3 Mobile Broadband Manager and then click on the ‘3 Mobile Broadband Manager’ program, Step 6 The Connection Manager starts (3 Mobile Broadband Manager), and prompts you to change your network Name (SSID) and Wifi Key (the security key of your network). Though you don’t need to, it’s recommended that you do for security reasons. Click on ‘Yes’ if so. (If you don’t want to change these details, click on No, and go to step 8) ...

Step 7 On clicking on ‘Yes’, the ‘Quick Setup’ tab opens. You can now change the name of your network (in the Name (SSID) field) and the Security Key of your network (in the WPA‐PSK (TKIP) field). Choose a name of your preference. To make the security key secure, try using CAPITAL letters, numbers and symbols in your key. (For example: If you wanted your password to be JanetWiFi, you could set it as J@n3tW!F! – this would make it secure as well as easy to remember) Don’t change any of the Dial‐up Settings, and click on Save. Step 7(a) After changing the name and key, it is recommended that you reset the device’s WiFi. From the dashboard, you can click on the ‘Wifi Open’ button, then on the ‘WiFi Closed’ button. ...

Step 9 That’s it! You’re now connected to the internet. You can continue using your device as it is, or you can unplug it and use it over a WiFi connection. (You can connect other devices to the E5830 Wireless Modem via WiFi even when it’s plugged into the computer.) ...
Starting up the E5830 Wireless Modem without a PC The E5830 Wireless Modem can be started by following Step 8 above, but it can also be started without it being connected to the PC. Steps for doing so: 1. Press and Hold the Power button on the side of the E5830 Wireless Modem until it powers on. On the main LED screen, you should see a green icon in the top left corner light up. This means that the device has attached successfully to a network. 2. Turn on the WiFi by clicking (not pressing and holding) the Wifi/WPS key on the side of the device. A blue icon in the bottom left corner of the device lights up. This means that the E5830 Wireless Modem has its WiFi turned on. 3. To connect the E5830 Wireless Modem to the internet, press and hold the internet button (which has an ‘e’ and a ‘bulb’ icon on it) on the side of the device. You should see the (M) icon at the bottom right of the LED screen blink rapidly – when it goes to a steady blue state, your device has been connected to the internet. 4. When all 4 LEDs on the device are on, and steady, your device is now broadcasting your mobile broadband connection over WiFi that other WiFi devices can use. ...
Connecting to the E5830 Wireless Modem via WiFi (PC) After your E5830 Wireless Modem has been configured and turned on, you can connect to it via WiFi instead of via USB. To connect a PC to the E5830 Wireless Modem via WiFi (Windows Vista ): Step 1 Turn the device on and make sure it’s connected to the internet and has its WiFi turned on. Step 2 In the Start Menu, click on ‘Connect To’. Step 3 In the ‘Connect to a Network’ window that opens, select your E5830 Wireless Modem network. This will show up as the network name of the E5830 Wireless Modem. (It will be the name you configured in the dashboard settings. If you left the network name to its default value, it will resemble ‘3‐ Mobile‐Broadband‐1234’) For Windows XP, Click on the WiFi Network icon in the System Tray (next to the clock – bottom right corner or your desktop), and click on ‘View Available Wireless Networks’. Step 4 Select the correct network, and click on ‘Connect’. Windows then prompts you for a network security key. Enter the network security key for the device.
