cross slide
backlash adjustment
Backlash is the amount of play in a lead screw. it
is felt when turning a handwheel in one direction,
then turning it in the other direction. the distance
that the handwheel moves without moving the
leadscrew or attached components is the back-
lash.
When adjusting backlash, tighten the components
enough to remove backlash, but not so much that
the components bind the leadscrew, making it
hard to turn. overtightening will cause excessive
wear to the sliding block and lead screw.
