2. Turn offthewater s upply t othewater h eater atthewater
Shut-off valve orwater m eter.
3. Attach a hose tothewater h eater d rain valve andputthe
other e nd inafloor d rain oroutdoors. Open the water h eater
drain valve. Open anearby hot w ater faucet which w ill r elieve
pressure i nthewater h eater andspeed draining.
Watertemperature over125°F

6. Liftoutthetabasshown t ounclip theterminal cover from
thethermostat. Theterminal cover c annowberemoved
from thethermostat.

7. Disconnect the two wires on the element and unscrew the
old element from the tank.
The water passing out of the drain valve may be extremely hot.
To avoid being scalded, make sure all connections are tight
and that the water flow is directed away from any person.

8. Clean the area around the element opening. Remove any
sediment from or around the element opening, inside the
tank.
