Symptom
The amount of system
memory displayed is less than
the amount of physical
memory installed.

The device emits a continuous
tone during POST, indicating
that the microprocessor is not
working correctly.

Cause and Action
1.
Verify the following items:
No error LEDs are lit on the operator information panel.
a.
The memory modules are seated properly.
b.
The correct type of memory has been installed.
c.
All banks of memory on the DIMMs are enabled. The device

might have automatically disabled a DIMM bank when it
detected a problem, or a DIMM bank could have been
manually disabled.
Check the POST error log for error message 289:

a.
If the DIMM was disabled by a system management interrupt
(SMI), the DIMM needs to be replaced. Have the system
serviced.
If the DIMM was disabled by the user or by POST, follow

these steps:
Start the configuration/setup utility program.
Enable the DIMM.
Save the configuration and restart the device.
Run the memory diagnostics.

Check the DIMM.

Check the system board.
