Although assigning names in the directory is recommended, it is not required. Associating
names with extensions can simplify maintenance if you later update phones on the Device
Assignments window.
IMPORTANT: The Auto Attendant
performs directory searches according
to the last name. Therefore, be sure to
provide a last name for anyone that you
want to include in the Auto Attendant
directory. Also, the user name you set
here is displayed as the caller ID for
internal calls.
These sections help you manage the User Directory:
• Adding Names to the Directory After You Install the Phones
• Adding Names to the Directory Before You Install the Phones
• Deleting a User from the Directory
• Changing a User's Directory Number
Adding Names to the Directory After You Install the Phones
As you connect phones to the Services Router, each phone is automatically assigned a 3-
digit extension in the order in which it is installed, starting with the number 210. An entry is
then added to the phone directory with the last name of "unknown" and a default extension.
Here's how to assign names to the extensions:
1. After each phone finishes negotiation, make note of the automatically assigned directory
number (it appears on the phone screen).
2. Click User Directory in the Action Index window or on the Site tab.
3. In Edit mode, type a user name for each directory number.
4. If you do not want to include a directory number in the Auto Attendant directory, check
AA Listing Disabled for that directory number. You'll want to do this for directory
numbers that are assigned to a fax machine, for example.
