Do not change an existing network The imagePRESS Server is probably connected to an existing Local Area Network (LAN) based on Ethernet hardware. The network is the link between the customer’s computer, existing laser printers, and other prepress equipment.

Also keep in mind that installation problems are easier to avoid and diagnose if you proceed from the component level to the system level, verifying functionality at each step.

Remember that when the imagePRESS Server is powered off, network access to the printer is interrupted. Power off the imagePRESS Server when you need to service it and before you remove or attach any cables to it.

Reassemble system and verify functionality. Reinstall old hard disk drive. Transfer options and BIOS information to the new motherboard.
  • Page 50 4. REPLACING PARTS IMPORTANT: Follow standard ESD and other safety precautions when handling components (see “Precautions ” on page 3). During service to the motherboard, avoid using excessive force and always place the motherboard on a grounded, non-metallic, static-free surface. Never allow any metal to touch the solder contacts on the underside of the motherboard, especially beneath the battery socket.

  • Page 53 4. REPLACING PARTS 2. Install the motherboard in the chassis. Angle the motherboard so that the motherboard connectors fit into the cutouts in the back of the chassis. IMPORTANT: Make sure that the flexible grounding tabs on the cutouts for the network ports make contact with the outside of the ports. Do not allow the tabs to fold over or become bent inside the ports.
  • Page 54 4. REPLACING PARTS • Verify all functionality by using the motherboard replacement dongle to enter Service Mode. (Service Mode is not indicated on the monitor or Fiery QuickTouch panel, but is entered once you power on with a new motherboard installed and the motherboard replacement dongle installed on a USB port.) Service Mode is a temporary state that allows you to make sure that the motherboard solves the problem that you are troubleshooting.

REPLACING PARTS Transferring options and BIOS information to the new motherboard After you verify that the new motherboard solves the problem that you are troubleshooting, you must use the motherboard replacement dongle to transfer options to the new motherboard. NOTE: The socket is keyed so that the DIMM fits only one way.

You may need to allow the components to cool before you attempt to remove them. • Loosen the four screws that secure the cooling assembly to the motherboard. Partially loosen all the screws before loosening any one screw all the way.

On a client computer that is connected to the same network as the imagePRESS Server, open a Web browser window. 2. In the URL field of the browser, type the IP address or DNS name of the imagePRESS Server, and press Enter. The IP address is listed under the Network Setup section of the imagePRESS Server Configuration page.

IMPORTANT: Avoid striking the DIMMs as you replace the hard disk drive bracket. NOTE: You will encounter slight resistance as you slide the bracket onto the shelf. The resistance is caused by two tension points on the bottom of the bracket.

    5. PERFORMING BACKUP AND RESTORE Performing Backup and Restore This chapter provides information about how to back up or restore information to the system. The imagePRESS Server ships with system software pre-installed on the hard disk drive (HDD). A factory-installed backup partition is available for restore if there is no on-site usable backup.

PERFORMING BACKUP AND RESTORE Backup recommendations Even though the server maintains a backup you can use for recovery of the factory installation, creating a separate backup provides the ability to retrieve customized settings and job information if a recent backup is needed. You can create a backup by using Fiery System Restore (from Command WorkStation, WebTools, or Fiery QuickTouch), or Fiery System Installer.

    5. PERFORMING BACKUP AND RESTORE Using Backup and Restore Backup and Restore allows you to create a backup of the imagePRESS Server for quick recovery later when any problem happens. It also allows you to create a backup of the Fiery Resources and Settings. You can restore the imagePRESS Server either from images stored on the local hard disk, or from a bootable USB drive.

Fiery QuickTouch uses the same menu selections and features for backing up and restoring the imagePRESS Server. Refer to the following tasks if you are using Backup and Restore on Fiery QuickTouch.

You must create a backup Fiery system image (see “To backup manually” on page 69) before creating a deployable image.
