DRIVE SYSTEM
SECONDARY SHEAVE SERVICE
The secondary sheave (Figure 39) is mounted on the
left end of the chaincase input shaft.
Removal
1. Remove the drive belt as described in this chapter.
2. Apply the parking brake to lock the jackshaft.
3. Loosen and remove the secondary sheave bolt (Figure
40) and collar. Do not lose the shims from the end of the
bolt.
4. Remove the secondary sheave from the shaft.
Installation
1. Lubricate the shaft splines with a low temperature mo-
splines on the jackshaft and install the secondary sheave.
3. Install the collar (1 8, Figure 39) into the end ofthe sec-
ondary sheave.
4. Install the shims (19, Figure 39), washer (20) and bolt
Tighten the bolt to 64 N*in (47 ft.-lb.).
5. Perform the Secondary Sheave Free Play Adjustment
in this chapter.
Secondary Sheave Free Play Adjustment
1 Remove the drive belt as described in this chapter.
2. The secondary sheave must have side clearance when
installed on the jackshaft with the sheave bolt tightened.
Check free play by moving the sheave back and forth by
hand. The sheave should have approximately 1.0-2.0 mm
(0.04-0.08 in.) axial clearance.
4. Remove the secondary sheave bolt as described under
Removal.
5. Adjust the secondary sheave free play by removing or
installing the shims on the bolt (Figure 40).
6. Install the secondary sheave bolt. washer and shims.
Tighten the bolt to 64 N-m (47 ft.-Ib.).
7. Recheck secondary sheave free play. If the free play is
not within specifications, repeat this procedure.
Disassembly
WARNING
The secondary sheave is under springpres-
sure. Do not allow the spring seat to fly o f f
NOTE
The spring ends reside
the spring seat andfixed sheave half. Mark
or record the holes during disassembly in
order to reinstall the spring in i t s original
position.
Refer to Figure 39.
1. While holding down the spring seat (A, Figure 41), re-
move the nuts (B).
2. Remove the spring seat and spring (A, Figure 42).
3. Separate the fixed sheave half (B, Figure 42) and slid-
ing sheave half (C).
4. Remove the stopper (Figure 43).
5. If it is necessary to remove the flanged bolts (Figure
44) in the sliding sheave half. make sure to keep the shims
in order.
Inspection
1.
Clean the secondary sheave assembly in solvent.
2. Check the sheave surfaces for cracks, deep scoring or
excessive wear.
