9. Close the microprocessor retainer and lock it into position with the small handle to secure the new
microprocessor in the socket.
10. Reinstall the thermal module. See "Replacing the thermal module" on page 264.

Replacing the system board

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Safety information" on page 1.
This section provides instructions on how to replace the system board.
CAUTION:
The thermal module and microprocessor might be very hot. Before you open the computer cover, turn
off the computer and wait several minutes until the computer is cool.
To replace the system board, do the following:
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect
all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 227.
3. Remove the hard disk drive assembly. See "Installing or removing the hard disk drive assembly" on page
241.
