Conversion procedure The following is the procedure to convert the server from a deskside model to a rackmount model: When installing or removing hardware options from the server, turn off the server, all peripheral devices, the server monitor module, and any other connected devices. Also unplug all power cords.
Page 47
Work Flow Perform the work in the order listed below: Pre-work preparations. Remove the front cover. Remove the hard disk units. Before moving the server, remove all hard disk units. Striking or hitting a hard disk unit can corrupt its data. Remove the top cover.
Pre-work preparations Complete the server information sheet in Appendix A. Shutdown the server system if its running. Turn off the server’s power (and any attached peripherals). Disconnect all peripherals and unplug all device power cords. Removing the front cover • Wear a wrist grounding strap before removing and attaching covers.
Wear a wrist grounding strap. Use the grounding strap pro- vided with the server. The wrist grounding strap has a side that connects to the server (A) and a side to tie around the wrist (B). Remove the seal (side A) and affix it to the server.

Notes: Note that when converting the server from a deskside to a rackmount, the bay orientation is different. The following diagram shows an 5-bay cage as an example to show the bay # and SCSI ID position before and after conversion. Make sure to write down the bay # and SCSI ID for each hard disk so they can be properly reoriented.
Remove the hard disk unit. Open the plastic lever of a hard disk unit and pull out to remove. Make sure to remove all installed hard disks Hard disk unit Removing the top cover Partially slide the operator panel towards the front. Holding the latches pinched, pull the device out about 2 or 3cm from its bay.

Remove the 2 retaining screws (M3) fixing the top cover. Be sure not to lose the screws that you removed. The shape of these M3 screws is different from that of the M3 POINT screws provided. Gently slide the top cover towards the front and remove it from the server.
Detaching the stabilizer legs Turn the stabilizer legs inward at the bottom of the server. Stabilizer legs Lay the server on its side (see diagram). Conversion procedure...
Detach the stabilizer legs from the bottom of the server. Remove the retaining M3 screws (4 per plate) to detach [Bottom of the server] the stabilizer legs from the server. =Screw holes Removing the side cover Remove the 3 retaining screws (M3) fixing the side cover. Do not lose these screws since they will be used later to reat- tach this cover.
Holding the handle, lift the right edge upward (as shown in the diagram), and slide it to the front to remove. Repositioning the devices To convert the server to a rackmount model, you must reorient the following 5-inch bay stor- age bay components: •...

[Front] Remove any installed internal devices or blank units by holding the latches pinched while pulling out the device Latches out of its bay (see diagram).
Reconnect all 5-inch internal device cable connections. Use the floppy disk power cable for both the floppy disk drive and the CD-ROM device. The connector for the CD-ROM is located midpoint along the power cable. Reconnect all operator panel cable connections. Attaching the side cover Perform the removal procedure in reverse to attach the side cover to the server.
