Starter cable replacement

Loosen four screws (A/1) and remove the starter (A/2).
If the starter cable is not torn, the tension of the return spring
must be released:
-
Pull out the starter handle to a length of about 30 cm (12"),
hold the starter cable drum and pull the starter cable out of
the housing using a screwdriver or a similar tool. Hook the
cable into the slot (D/10) and hold. Carefully let the drum
turn backwards until the tension in the spring has been
released.

Thread in a new cable (3 mm dia. x 1150 mm long) as shown
in Figure C and tie the ends as shown.

Pull knot (C/6) into the cable pulley (C/5).

Pull knot (C/7) into the cable grip (C/8).

Insert the cable drum into the starter housing, making sure
that the return spring (C/9) is in the correct position. When
inserting the drum, turn it slightly until it noticeably locks
into position.

Insert the disc (B/4) and screw in and tighten the screw
(B/3).
Replacing the return spring
-
Dismount the starter housing (see chapter „Starter cable
replacement")

Remove the old return spring.
CAUTION: Danger of injury! The spring can spring out -
wards. Before removing the cable drum (B/5), cover the
starter housing with a cloth.

Unscrew the screw (B/3) and remove it together with the
disc (B/4).
CAUTION: Danger of injury! The return spring can spring
outwards. Before removing the cable drum (B/5), cover the
starter housing with a cloth.

Carefully remove the cable drum (B/5).

Remove all cable remains.

Hook the cable into the slot (D/10) on the cable drum and
turn the cable drum, together with the cable, counter-
clockwise for 7 to 8 turns.

Hold the cable drum and pull the rope taut at the starter
handle. Remove any loops and twists in the cable.

Let the entire cable be wound up by the tension of the cable
drum.
CAUTION: Danger of injury! Secure the cable grip when
pulled out! It will whip back if the cable pulley is released
by accident.
NOTE: When the cable is fully extended, it must be possible
to turn the cable drum at least once against the spring
tension.
Replacement return springs come under tension in a wire ring.
Before installing, lightly grease the new spring with multi-purpose
grease, order No. 944 360 000.

With the spring still tight in the in wire ring, press it into the
fan housing. The wire ring will automatically be scraped off.
For instructions on assembling the cable drum and the
starter cable please refer to the chapter „Starter cable
replacement").
NOTE:
The old spring should be recycled.
