Upgrading Firmware

DR-R504X CD-ROM Writer contains two types of firmware. It con-
tains an EEPROM for system control. This EEPROM can be upgraded
through software. It also contains an EPROM for mechanical control.
This is only upgraded by replacing the EPROM. Contact Service for
additional information about replacing firmware.
CAUTION: Do not interrupt the upgrade process before the software
has been copied to the Flash EEPROM. If the process is interrupted
before the software has been copied, the EEPROM will be corrupted
and it will need to be replaced. If this happens, call Service. See
Appendix E, Pioneer Technical Resource Numbers.
To upgrade the EEPROM of the DR-R504X, using upgrade software,
follow the directions below:

the DR-R504X.

DR-R504X EEPROM & EPROM Upgrades
1. With the DRM-5004X connected properly to a computer and the
DR-R504X properly installed in the Jukebox, open DOS. See
Chapter 3, Set Up and Chapter 4, Custom Configuration. for
information on the proper set-up of the DRM-5004X and the
DR-R504X.
2. Download the appropriate file from the Pioneer Bulletin Board
System. Contact Service for information on the current file to
download from the BBS. See Appendix E, Pioneer Technical
Resource Numbers.
3. Use a computer with DOS 5 or above and load the ASPI
Manager into the Config.Sys. There should be a line in the
Config.Sys that reads: Device=C:\xxxx\ASPI.Sys.
(The ÒxxxxÓ is the directory.)
4. Execute the Upgrade Software.
5. Receive feedback from software indicating that the upgrade
has been successful. If the upgrade fails, contact Service.
