6.1.2 Upgrading the DRM-5004X by Replacing the EEPROM
The EEPROM of the DRM-5004X can be replaced with a new upgrad-
ed EEPROM which can be purchased by calling Pioneer Electronic
Service. Order the DRM-5004X EEPROM Upgrade Kit. Follow these
directions to upgrade the EEPROM.
1. Turn the power to the DRM-5004X OFF.
2. Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
3. Remove the Middle Rear Panel of the DRM-5004X.
4. Using an EPROM Puller carefully pull the EEPROM out of the sock-
et. The EEPROM is located on the middle left side of the main
controller board. See Figure 6-1, DRM-5004X Main Controller
Assembly Showing EEPROM Location.
CAUTION: When removing the EEPROM, be very careful not to
crack the socket for the EEPROM chip. If this socket is
cracked, the new EEPROM will not be able to be placed back
into it. If the socket is damaged, contact Service.
5. Replace the old EEPROM with the new EEPROM. The dot on the
EEPROM must face the left side of the socket. You should be
able to read the writing on the EEPROM. See Figure 6-1,

6. Replace the Middle Rear Panel.
7. Plug the power cord into the outlet and turn the power on to the
DRM-5004X.
8. Enter Test Mode by opening the front door of the DRM-5004X
and inserting the door bypass jig into the door lock hole to hold
the switch closed during testing. Call Service for details.
9. Press the TM button on the inside front right rail above the door
interlock switch and hold for 3 seconds. See Mode Setting
Buttons.
