ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDAL GROUP
PEDAL GROUP ADJUSTMENT – GASOLINE VEHICLE
See General Warning, Section 1, Page 1-1.
1. Disconnect the battery cables as instructed. See WARNING "To avoid unintentionally starting..." in
General Warning, Section 1, Page 1-2.
2. Adjust brake pedal height.
2.1. Chock wheels and release park brake. Lift rear of vehicle and place jack stands under the axle
tubes to support the vehicle.
2.2. To provide slack in the brake cables, loosen the equalizer retaining nuts (2 and 3) on the equalizer
rods (1) (Figure 5-9, Page 5-11).

2.3. Loosen the brake stop jam nut (31), then relieve pedal pressure on the stop by pushing down
slightly on the pedal. Next, adjust the brake stop bumper (22) up or down (Figure 5-10, Page 5-11).
Adjusting the bumper upward decreases distance between pedal and floorboard. Adjusting the
bumper downward increases distance between pedal and floorboard. Proper brake pedal height is
6 inches (15.2 cm) (Figure 5-11, Page 5-11).
2.4. Tighten the jam nut (31) to 8 ft-lb (9.5 N·m) (Figure 5-10, Page 5-11).
