Handling
1. Configure phone 1 and phone 2 on different ADSL service boards respectively and perform
Process:
tests. The fault persists.
2. Check the upstream port configuration. It is confirmed that the bandwidth of the upstream port
is sufficient.
3. Perform tests in the lab. The two IPMA users can communicate with each other normally. The
fault in the field cannot be simulated in the lab.
4. Capture packets on the upstream port of IPMA for the normal communication and for the
abnormal communication. It is found that the inbound and outbound packets of IPMA are normal
in the case of normal communication. In the case of abnormal communication, however, the
inbound packets of IPMA are intermittent, which indicates that the forwarding of the NE20 is
abnormal.
5. Upon confirmation with the R&D department, it is found that only one interface is configured
on the NE20 for connecting to IPMA. Under such a configuration, the forwarding efficiency is
abnormal. Different interfaces should be configured for different VLANs for processing different
traffic streams.
6. Modify the configuration on both the NE20 and IPMA and then perform tests. The problem is
solved.
Suggestions
Certain problems that possibly seem to be caused by the UA5000 are actually not caused by the
and summary:
UA5000. In the case of such problems, the problem should be located by capturing packets on the
upstream port or by performing certain tests. In this way, it can be determined more quickly
whether the problem is caused by the UA5000 or by other devices.

Cause
The IPMB upstream port can automatically communicate with the EP1A only when the port is an

optical port or when no subboard is configured.
Handling
1. Consult the configuration guide. The upstream communication of the IPMB through the EP1A
Process:
is self-negotiated. No manual configuration is required.
2. Connect an Ethernet cable directly from the IPMB to the Ethernet port of the EP1A. Both the
EP1A and IPMB ports are normal.
3. A backplane interface fault is suspected. But the same fault occurs to several UA5000 systems
in the field.
4. Consult related engineers. It is found that if an electrical subboard is configured on the IPMB,
the upstream communication goes only through an Ethernet port if in the default mode. The
upstream services cannot go through the backplane interface.
