Fault symptom: The ringing is normal for the call-in and call-out services of the MA5606T

voice service. The communication, however, is unidirectional. That is, the user can hear

the other party but the other party cannot hear the user. The dialing between the two

internal phones of the MA5606T is normal and the preceding problem does not occur.

1. The data configuration is incorrect.

2. The processing of the MA5606T or the softswitch is abnormal.

3. The layer 3 route of the bearer network is faulty or certain User Datagram Protocol

(UDP) ports are shielded.

Handling Proces

1. The internal calling is normal. Through the analysis of the captured signaling packets

by running the dbwin command, the signaling exchange between the MA5606T and the

softswitch is normal.

2. Replace the MA5606T with an MA5620G and ensure that all the relevant

configurations are the same. The problem does not occur during the dialing. Therefore,

the softswitch and the bearer network are normal. The problem occurs on the MA5606T.

3. View the configurations of the MA5606T. It is found that the media stream and the

signaling stream pass different gateways. The signaling IP address of the softswitch can

be pinged, but the peer IP address of the Real-Time Protocol (RTP) stream cannot be

pinged. Therefore, the route of the RTP stream is abnormal. Configure a static route for

the media stream on the MA5606T (the next hop is the gateway of the media stream of

the VoIP address pool). Test the communication again, and the problem is solved.

Since the media gateway is configured in the VoIP address pool of the MA5606T and

the communication on the MA5602E with the same configurations is normal, why the

communication is normal only after you configure the static route for the media stream?

Through analysis, the MA5606T (with the MCUA control board) has a media stream

forwarding mode different from that of the MA5620G in the upstream direction. The

media streams of the MA5606T are forwarded through layer 3 and the system routing

table needs to be queried. The media gateway in the VoIP address pool of the MA5606T

can be used only for the turnaround of the RTP stream. This media gateway cannot

function as the actual gateway of the media streams.
