Program Message
Syntax
For
example,
if
the instrument address for the
HP
54501A
is 4
and the
interface select code
is 7,
when
the
program
message
is
passed, the
routine performs
its
function on the instrument
at device address 704.
For
the
HP
54501A, the
instrument address
is
typically
set
to
"7"
at the
factory.
This
address can be changed in the
HP-IB
menu
of
the
Utility
menu.
Note
The program examples in
this
manual
assume the
HP
54501A
is
at device address 707.
To program
the instrument over the
bus, you must
have an understanding
of the command format
and structure expected
by
the instrument.
The
instrument
is
remotely programmed with program
messages.
These are
composed
of
sequences
of program
message units,
with each unit
representing
a
program command or query.
A
program command or
query
is
composed
of
a
sequence
of functional
elements that include
separators, headers,
program data,
and terminators.
These are
sent
to the
instrument over the system
interface
as
a
sequence
of
ASCII
data
messages.
