Servicing the Battery

Important: The battery you received with your
product is a maintenance free battery, and as
such you do not need to follow these maintenance
procedures. This section details the procedures for
maintaining a standard lead acid battery which you
may use as a replacement for the original when it
wears out.
Check the electrolyte level in the battery every 75 hours.
Always keep the battery clean and fully charged. Use
a paper towel to clean the battery case. If the battery
terminals are corroded, clean them with a solution of
four parts water and one part baking soda. Apply a light
coating of grease to the battery terminals to reduce
corrosion.
Specifications: 12 v, 450 Cold Cranking Amps

4. If the electrolyte is low, add the required amount of
distilled water; refer to Adding Water to the Battery.
Adding Water to the Battery
The best time to add distilled water to the battery is just
before you operate the traction unit. This lets the water
mix thoroughly with the electrolyte solution.
DANGER
Battery electrolyte contains sulfuric acid which is a
deadly poison and causes severe burns.
• Do not drink electrolyte and avoid contact with
skin, eyes or clothing. Wear safety glasses to
shield your eyes and rubber gloves to protect
your hands.
• Fill the battery where clean water is always
available for flushing the skin.
1. Remove the nuts and bars securing the battery
(Figure 34).
2. Disconnect the negative (black) cable to the negative
(-) battery post (Figure 34).
WARNING
Incorrect battery cable routing could damage
the tractor and cables causing sparks. Sparks
can cause the battery gasses to explode,
resulting in personal injury.
• Always disconnect the negative (black)
battery cable before disconnecting the
positive (red) cable.
• Always connect the positive (red) battery
cable before connecting the negative (black)
cable.
