Battery
If the deterioration display appears at an early
stage, the service mode can be used for a
simple diagnosis of the problem. (See the later
section on servicing the battery.)
CAUTION:
If there is only one stage on the capacity
display gauge which is flashing (remaining
capacity alert), the battery should be charged
immediately, or should be replaced with a
spare battery.
NOTE:
As the degree of deterioration advances, the
remaining capacity display no longer displays
the full capacity, even though charging has
been completed.
There may be cases in which the battery
deterioration display can be recovered. This
can happen if the activation of the battery is
boosted because of the ambient temperature
or the way in which the battery is being used.
If the battery has deteriorated to 60% or less of its
original level, the charging and discharging char-
acteristics become unstable, and the remaining
capacity display can no longer be displayed accu-
rately. A recommendation should be made at this
point that the battery be replaced.
The remaining capacity display does not func-
tion correctly outside of the guaranteed tem-
perature range. If this occurs, the LEDs indi-
cating the remaining capacity will flash to alert
the user.
If the fuse blows, or comes out of its holder, the
remaining capacity gauge is reset to "0". (See
the previous section on storing the battery.)
Battery information communication
The battery control unit is built in programmed
with a communication function which enables
information to be sent and received between
the wheelchair and the charger. When the bat-
tery is charged and discharged, this is used to
communicate various types of information.
NOTE:
If communication is inhibited because contact
points have become deformed or because for-
eign substances have gotten into the unit, the
display indicates an error in communication be-
tween the charger and the wheelchair.
