Close the display and turn the computer upside-down on a flat work surface. NOTE: To avoid damaging the system board, you must remove the main battery before you service the computer. Remove the main battery. Turn the computer top-side up. Open the display.
After you complete any replacement procedure, ensure you connect any external devices, cards, and cables before turning on your computer. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the computer, use only the battery designed for this particular Dell computer. Do not use batteries designed for other Dell computers.
Removing and Installing Components This section provides detailed information on how to remove or install the components from your computer. System Overview Figure 1. Removing the Base Cover Before Working Inside Your Computer . Follow the procedures in Remove the screws that secure the base cover to the computer. Lift the base cover and remove it from the computer. Installing the Base Cover Place the base cover to align with the screw holes on the computer. Tighten the screws to secure the base cover to the computer.
Installing the Memory Insert the memory into the memory socket. Press the securing clips to secure the memory module to the system board. Install: a. base cover b. battery After Working Inside Your Computer . Follow the procedures in Removing the Hard Drive Before Working Inside Your Computer .
Flex the hard-drive isolation. Peel off the hard-drive isolation from the hard drive. Installing the Hard Drive Fix the hard-drive isolation on the hard drive. Attach the hard-drive caddy to the hard drive. Tighten the screws to secure the hard-drive caddy to the hard drive. Slide the hard drive into the computer.
Remove the screw that secures the optical-drive latch to the optical drive. Slide the optical-drive latch and remove it from the optical-drive. Remove the screws that secure the optical-drive latch bracket to the optical drive. Remove the latch bracket from the optical drive.
Using a plastic scribe, pry the keyboard trim to release it from the computer. Lift it up to remove the keyboard trim from the computer. Installing the Keyboard Trim Align the keyboard trim to its slot. Press along the sides of the keyboard trim until it clicks in place. Install battery.

Remove the screws on the back of the computer and flip the computer. Remove the screws that secure the keyboard to the palmrest assembly, lift and flip the keyboard to access the keyboard-cable.
Disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board. Installing the Keyboard Connect the keyboard cable to the system board. Slide the keyboard into its compartment until it clicks into place. Tighten the screws to secure the keyboard to the palmrest assembly. Flip the computer and tighten the screws on the back of the computer.
Perform the following steps: a. Disconnect the antenna cables from the WLAN card. b. Remove the screw that secures the WLAN card to the system board. c. Remove the WLAN card from the computer. Installing the WLAN Card Insert the WLAN card in its connector at a 45–degree angle in its slot. Connect the antenna cables to their respective connectors marked on the WLAN card.
Installing the WWAN Card Place the WWAN card in its slot in the system board. Press the WWAN card down and tighten the screw to secure the WWAN card to the computer. Connect the antenna cables to their connectors on the WWAN card. Install: a.

Disconnect the fan cable and remove the screws that secure the heatsink assembly to the system board. NOTE: Remove the screws in the numerical order as displayed in the image. Perform the following steps as shown in the illustration: a. Lift the heatsink assembly from the computer. b.

Installing the Processor Align the notches on the processor and the socket, and insert the processor into the socket.

Remove the screw that secures the bracket to the computer and disconnect the camera cable that secures the power connector to the computer. Unroute the camera and the LVDS cables that secure the power connector to the computer. Disconnect the power-connector cable and remove the screw that secures the power connector to the computer.
Installing the Power Connector Place the power connector in its slot. Connect the power-connector cable and tighten the screw that secures the power connector to the computer. Route the camera cable and the LVDS cable that secures the power connector to the computer. Tighten the screw to secure the power-connector bracket to the computer and connect the camera cable that secures the power connector to the computer.
Removing the Palmrest Assembly Before Working Inside Your Computer . Follow the procedures in Remove: a. SD card b. Flip the computer and disconnect the following cables: a. media board b. Unified Security Hub (USH) board c. touchpad d. Wi-Fi board e. LED board Remove the screws that secure the palmrest assembly to the computer. Installing the Palmrest Assembly Align the palmrest assembly to its original position in the computer and snap it into place.

Disconnect the I/O cable from the system board and remove the screws that secure the I/O board to the computer. Remove the I/O board from the computer. Installing the I/O Board Place the I/O board in its slot and snap it in place. Tighten the screws to secure the I/O board.
Removing the Display Assembly Before Working Inside Your Computer . Remove the screws that secure the display assembly to the computer. Disconnect the LVDS cable and release the LVDS cable and camera cable from the routing channel. Remove the display assembly from the computer. Installing the Display Assembly Place the display assembly in its position on the computer. Route the LVDS cable and the camera cable through the routing channel.

Remove the display bezel from the display assembly. Installing the Display Bezel Place the display bezel onto the display assembly. Starting from the top corner, press on the display bezel and work around the entire bezel until it clicks onto the display assembly.

Peel off the LVDS cable-connector tape and disconnect the LVDS cable from the display panel. Remove the display panel from the display assembly. Installing the Display Panel Connect the LVDS cable and stick the LVDS cable-connector tape. Flip the display and place it in the display assembly. Tighten the screws to secure the display panel to the display assembly.
