2.3.2 Components of the Writer
The components of the DR-R504X are listed below, and identified in
the illustration to the left.
See Figure 2-18, Components of the DR-R504X CD-ROM Writer.
1. Servo Mechanism - This mechanism tracks the optical head.
2. Shield Casing - The metal casing around the main controller
assembly.
3. Optical Head - The optical read head of the DR-R504X.
4. Spindle Motor - The motor spins the disc at four times high-rota-
tional-speed.

Setting SCSI ID Connector - This (4 pin) connector is used to
connect the SCSI ID switches on the rear panel of the DRM-5004X
to convey the SCSI ID setting to the writer.
6. Controller Connector - This (5 pin) connector attaches the
DR-R504X to the controller board and performs the clamp and
unclamp functions.
7. Power Connector - This (9 pin) connector attaches the
DR-R504X to the DRM-5004X and the power supply.
8. SCSI Connector - This (50 pin) connector attaches the
DR-R504X to the SCSI chain at the rear of the DRM-5004X.
9. DIP Switches - All switches are set in the down position as the
default. The switch settings are:

NOTE: A special clamper hub, for use with the writer, is bundled with
the DR-R504X CD-R Writer. Remove the clamper assembly and install the
new clamper hub before installing the writer. See Page 4-33 for directions.
